Prime Minister Modi Begins Two Day Seychelles Visit to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun a two day visit to Seychelles aimed at deepening bilateral ties, enhancing maritime cooperation, and expanding collaboration on regional security and economic development.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a two day official visit to Seychelles, where he is expected to hold wide ranging discussions with the island nation’s leadership to further strengthen the long standing partnership between the two countries.

The visit comes at a significant time as India and Seychelles mark 50 years of diplomatic relations. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the discussions will focus on expanding cooperation in areas including maritime security, economic development, regional stability, and people to people ties across the Indian Ocean region.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will meet Seychelles President Patrick Herminie for bilateral talks. The two leaders are expected to review the progress of existing partnerships and explore new avenues of cooperation. Modi said he looks forward to building on the momentum created following the Seychelles President’s visit to India earlier this year.

One of the major highlights of the visit will be Prime Minister Modi’s address to the National Assembly of Seychelles. He will become the first Indian Prime Minister to deliver a speech in the country’s Parliament, marking a historic milestone in India Seychelles relations.

Prime Minister Modi has also been invited as the Guest of Honour for Seychelles National Day celebrations, which coincide with the Golden Jubilee commemorations. Indian officials said the invitation reflects the close friendship and growing strategic partnership between the two nations.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to interact with members of the Indian community living in Seychelles. The government believes the Indian diaspora continues to play an important role in strengthening cultural and economic ties between the two countries.

Officials from both sides are expected to exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest, while also discussing ways to promote peace, security, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

As part of the National Day celebrations, a contingent of the Indian Armed Forces and two Indian Navy ships will participate in ceremonial events. The Ministry of External Affairs said their participation highlights the deep defence and maritime cooperation that has developed between India and Seychelles over the years.
