Coastal Karnataka Braces for Heavy Rain; Orange Alert Issued for Udupi, Uttara Kannada

The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall and strong winds across coastal and northern interior Karnataka over the next few days, prompting Orange and Yellow alerts in several districts.

The southwest monsoon has intensified once again across Karnataka, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy rainfall in several parts of the state over the coming days. Coastal districts are expected to witness the highest rainfall activity, leading authorities to issue weather alerts as a precautionary measure.

According to the latest forecast, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts are likely to receive heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Due to the expected intensity of rainfall, an Orange Alert has been declared for these districts. Wind speeds may reach 30 to 40 kmph in some areas, increasing the risk of disruptions.

Dakshina Kannada district is also expected to experience widespread rainfall along with thunder, lightning, and strong winds. While rainfall intensity may be slightly lower than in the Orange Alert districts, the weather department has placed the region under a Yellow Alert and advised residents to remain cautious.

Rainfall activity is not limited to the coast. Several districts in North Interior Karnataka are also likely to receive moderate to heavy showers. Belagavi and Dharwad could witness isolated heavy rainfall along with gusty winds, while districts such as Haveri, Gadag, and Bagalkote may experience moderate rain and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, and Yadgir are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall in many places. Strong winds and occasional thunderstorms are also likely in these regions over the next few days.

The weather department has urged fishermen, farmers, and the general public to stay updated on weather advisories. People have been advised to avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms and lightning activity.

With monsoon conditions remaining active across Karnataka, residents in affected districts are advised to exercise caution and prepare for possible weather-related disruptions.
