Orange Alert for Coastal Karnataka as Monsoon Gains Strength

The India Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for three coastal districts of Karnataka, while several interior districts remain under Yellow Alert amid forecasts of heavy rain and strong winds.

Bengaluru: Monsoon activity has strengthened across Karnataka, bringing widespread rainfall to many parts of the state. Weather officials have warned that rainfall intensity may increase further over the next few days, especially in coastal areas.

Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts have been placed under an Orange Alert due to forecasts of heavy rainfall. Authorities have also advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea as rough conditions and high waves are expected along the coast.

Meanwhile, Yellow Alerts have been issued for several districts in the Malnad and interior regions, including Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Tumakuru, and Chikkaballapur. Strong winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph may accompany rainfall in these areas.

Northern interior districts such as Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri are also expected to receive heavy rain along with thunderstorms and gusty winds. Moderate rainfall is likely in Bagalkote, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, and Yadgir districts.

Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagara, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Kolar, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Ballari, and Vijayanagara districts may experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Residents have been urged to avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during storms.
