NU hospital launch highlights need for stronger healthcare systems, says Dinesh Gundu Rao

Bengaluru: Underlining the growing pressure on urban healthcare systems, Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Wednesday said that strengthening healthcare infrastructure is critical to ensuring accessible and quality treatment for citizens.
He was speaking after inaugurating a new super speciality facility on Mission Road, adding that cities like Bengaluru require continuous investment in advanced medical infrastructure to keep pace with rising demand. “Strengthening healthcare infrastructure is not optional anymore—it is essential. Such facilities ensure that people have access to quality treatment without overburdening public hospitals,” he said.
The minister noted that improved infrastructure, combined with modern technology, would significantly enhance patient outcomes and overall healthcare delivery in the state. He emphasised the importance of partnerships and private sector participation in bridging gaps in specialised care.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several prominent personalities, including noted cardiologist and Member of Parliament C. N. Manjunath and actor-filmmaker Ramesh Aravind, along with other dignitaries from the medical and film sectors.
Officials said the newly launched NU Hospital is designed to cater to specialised treatments with a focus on urology, nephrology, fertility, and transplant care. The facility combines digital healthcare systems with advanced clinical expertise to deliver precise and efficient treatment.
Chairman Dr. Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy said the hospital reflects a long-term commitment to providing world-class super speciality services in Bengaluru. He highlighted that the institution aims to raise the bar in clinical excellence while maintaining strong ethical standards.
Managing Director Dr. Prasanna Venkatesh pointed out that the integration of digital tools and data-driven treatment approaches would help improve clinical outcomes and patient experience. “Technology-driven care is the future, and our focus is on delivering accurate, timely, and patient-centric services,” he said.
Ramesh Kannan, Senior Partner at Somerset Indus Healthcare Fund, said the hospital stands out for its focus on specialised areas such as nephrology, urology, male infertility, pediatric urology, uro-oncology, robotics, and transplant care. He added that the institution’s transparency, in-house expertise, and patient-first philosophy made it an attractive investment opportunity.
With Bengaluru continuing to emerge as a major healthcare destination, the addition of such advanced facilities is expected to strengthen the city’s position as a hub for specialised treatment.
