Trial phase begins for Bengaluru Metro Pink Line, major boost to city connectivity

Bengaluru : In a major development aimed at decongesting Bengaluru’s roads, the Pink Line of Namma Metro has entered the crucial trial run stage, marking a significant step closer to public operations.
From April 28, experts from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation have begun a series of technical inspections and trial runs on the corridor. These tests, scheduled to continue until May 12, are designed to evaluate safety systems, track performance, and operational efficiency.
According to officials from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, the data collected during this phase will be carefully analysed to issue an Interim Speed Certification. This certification plays a key role in determining the safe operating speed for metro trains on the route.
Following this, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CRS) will conduct an independent safety audit. The CRS report will then be submitted to the Railway Board for final approval. Only after securing all statutory clearances will the line be opened to commuters.
Authorities estimate that the entire approval and certification process may take around two to three months.
The Pink Line project spans approximately 21 km, connecting key parts of the city through a mix of elevated and underground corridors. The elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere, measuring around 7 km, is already equipped with five train sets, which are currently being used for trial operations.
Meanwhile, construction work on the underground section from Dairy Circle to Nagawara is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed within this year.
In parallel, the Yellow Line project has also received a boost with the arrival of its 10th train set from Titagarh Rail Systems, which is expected to enhance connectivity between RV Road and Bommasandra.
The expansion of metro services is considered crucial for Bengaluru, a city grappling with severe traffic congestion. Once operational, the Pink Line is expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve urban mobility, and provide a reliable alternative to road transport for thousands of daily commuters.
