Student clash in Bengaluru turns violent, robbery and knife attack reported

Bengaluru : Rising incidents of student violence in the state capital have sparked concern after a minor dispute between outstation students escalated into a brutal robbery and knife attack under the jurisdiction of Konanakunte Police Station.

According to police, a group of students from Tamil Nadu allegedly attacked and robbed students from Kerala in Konanakunte’s Pavamana Nagar area. The victims, including Irfan Mohammed, along with his friends Adarsh and Darwin, were pursuing fourth-semester courses at T John College and were staying in a rented house.

The incident occurred on the night of April 17 around 10:25 pm, when a group of six individuals barged into Irfan’s residence. The attackers allegedly threatened the students at knifepoint, demanding money. When the victims said they did not have cash, the assailants turned violent and attacked all three with knives, leaving them injured.

Police said the accused also robbed four mobile phones and a two-wheeler from the victims before fleeing the scene. Following a swift investigation, Konanakunte police arrested six suspects identified as Naveen Kumar, Kumaran, Vimal Raj, Abhinesh, Kalaivendan and Prem Kumar.

During interrogation, police uncovered that the attack was not random but premeditated. The complainant Irfan and one of the accused, Abhinesh, were students of the same college. Earlier, a minor altercation had taken place on campus, during which Abhinesh was allegedly assaulted by a group of Kerala students.

Seeking revenge, Abhinesh reportedly brought his friends from Tamil Nadu to Bengaluru and plotted the attack. Investigators revealed that the group initially intended to assault the victims but later decided to commit robbery as well. “Since we have come all the way, let’s not just attack but also loot,” was reportedly part of their plan.

Police have recovered the stolen items from the accused and remanded them to judicial custody. Officials said the case highlights how trivial disputes among students can spiral into serious criminal acts with long-term consequences.

The incident has once again raised questions about student safety and the growing trend of violent confrontations in Bengaluru. Authorities have urged educational institutions to proactively address conflicts among students to prevent such incidents.
