No fuel shortage in Karnataka, supply chain intact: officials

Bengaluru : Oil marketing companies have reassured citizens that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG in Karnataka, even as global tensions continue to impact energy markets. Officials said the state’s fuel supply system remains resilient and well-regulated.
The assurance came during a joint media briefing involving Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum and GAIL India, held in Bengaluru.
Indian Oil Executive Director Siddharth Agarwal stated, “Fuel supply across Karnataka is stable. There is no disruption, and all petrol pumps are functioning normally. The supply chain—from refinery to retail outlet—is operating without any hurdles.”
He added that the state’s refining capacity of 15 MMTPA ensures adequate supply to meet current demand levels.
Regarding LPG availability, officials said the situation has improved after a temporary spike in demand. “Panic booking in March pushed daily LPG bookings to 3.75 lakh, but it has now reduced to 3.06 lakh. Delivery delays are being addressed and the system is stabilising,” Agarwal noted.
Digital adoption in LPG services has significantly increased, with 94.5% of consumers using online platforms for bookings. The DAC system has enhanced transparency and ensured correct delivery.
Officials also outlined measures taken to prioritise commercial LPG supply for critical sectors such as healthcare, education and transport, following state directives.
Highlighting the shift towards cleaner energy, Sanjay Kumar Singh said, “Over 5.01 lakh PNG connections have been provided nationwide since the West Asia tensions began. Expansion of city gas networks is underway.”
Supporting this, S G Ravindra said, “Switching to PNG is beneficial for consumers as it is economical and easy to use.”
Officials also observed rising demand for auto LPG due to reduced private sector participation but assured that public sector companies are stepping up supply despite infrastructure limitations.
Reiterating their message, authorities urged citizens not to panic, stating that Karnataka’s fuel supply remains secure, stable and fully under control.
