JDS targets D K Shivakumar, alleges bias in Congress leadership decisions

Bengaluru: The Janata Dal (Secular) has launched a sharp attack against Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D. K. Shivakumar, accusing him of sidelining leaders from rival factions within the Congress party for political gain.

In a strongly worded post on social media, Janata Dal (Secular) criticised the recent developments within the Congress, particularly the action taken against minority leaders. The party alleged that internal decisions within Indian National Congress reflect “social injustice” and selective targeting of certain communities.

Referring to recent disciplinary action, the JDS highlighted the removal of minority leader Abdul Jabbar from the party, stating that it exposes deep-rooted issues in Congress leadership. The party also cited the earlier removal of Scheduled Caste leader K. N. Rajanna from a ministerial position, calling it an example of alleged discrimination against marginalised communities.

According to the JDS, such decisions indicate that “all is not well” within the Congress when it comes to leadership management. The party accused Shivakumar of targeting leaders from opposing factions within the party to consolidate his own position. “For the sake of power, leaders are being systematically sidelined and politically finished through planned strategies,” the statement alleged.

The regional party further claimed that while top leaders are let off with mere apologies for their mistakes, leaders from Scheduled Castes and minority communities face harsher punishments such as suspension or expulsion. It termed this as a clear case of unequal treatment within the party structure.

In its criticism, the JDS also accused Shivakumar of using financial and political influence to dominate internal party affairs. It alleged that grassroots leaders from Dalit and backward communities, who have worked for the Congress over the years, are now being targeted, thereby jeopardising their political future.

The remarks come amid growing tensions within the Congress’ state unit, particularly following recent developments in its minority wing. While Congress leaders have not officially responded to the JDS allegations, sources within the party have maintained that disciplinary actions are taken based on organisational principles and internal assessments.

The political slugfest is expected to intensify in the coming days as both parties continue to trade accusations, reflecting the evolving power dynamics within Karnataka’s political landscape.
