Samsung Expands One UI 8.5 Beta to More Galaxy Devices

Beta update based on Android 16 reaches flagship, foldable and select mid range Samsung phones across multiple countries, giving users early access to new features, improvements and performance upgrades ahead of stable release

Samsung has begun rolling out its One UI 8.5 beta program, opening early access to a wider range of Galaxy users than before. Unlike previous updates that focused mainly on premium devices, this rollout also includes select mid range smartphones, signaling a broader testing approach.

The beta version is built on Android 16 and is already available in key markets including India, South Korea, Germany, Poland, the United States and the United Kingdom. Users in these regions can enroll and experience upcoming features before the official stable release.

A notable shift this time is the inclusion of devices beyond flagship models. Alongside the latest Galaxy S series, Samsung has also added foldable smartphones and even a mid range model to the beta list. This suggests the company is aiming to refine the software across different device categories.

Eligible smartphones include the Galaxy S25 lineup, Galaxy S24 series and Galaxy S23 range. In the foldable segment, devices such as Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are part of the program. The Galaxy A36 represents mid range users in this phase.

To join the beta program, users need to register through the Samsung Members app. Once enrolled, the update can be downloaded from the software update section in device settings. The process is simple, but requires users to actively opt in.

Samsung has also indicated that more devices could be added in the coming weeks, allowing a larger user base to test the new interface and features. This gradual expansion helps the company gather feedback and improve system stability before a full rollout.

However, users should proceed with caution. Beta software often comes with bugs, performance issues or incomplete features. It is advisable to back up important data before installing the update to avoid any potential loss.

With One UI 8.5, Samsung appears focused on refining user experience, improving system performance and introducing subtle enhancements. While the final version is still some time away, the beta program offers a glimpse into what Galaxy users can expect next.
