Massive Fire at Adi Udupi Market, Destroys Fruit storage warehouse
Preliminary investigations suspect that a short circuit triggered the fire among the fruit boxes stored in the shop.
Udupi: A devastating fire broke out in the wee hours of the morning today at the Adi Udupi Sante Market. A major fruit storage warehouse (godown) in the market accidentally caught fire, completely destroying fruits and materials worth lakhs of rupees.
Preliminary investigations suspect that a short circuit triggered the fire among the fruit boxes stored in the shop. Due to the heavy presence of plastic and cardboard packaging boxes, the fire spread across the entire interior of the warehouse within moments. Amid thick smoke and raging flames, the majority of the fruit stock and valuable furniture inside the godown were reduced to ashes.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot immediately and successfully brought the blaze under control after a continuous operation. Since hundreds of shops are situated closely adjacent to each other in the Sante Market, a major catastrophe was averted due to the timely action of the fire fighters.
The personnel successfully prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring establishments. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident. However, the traders are estimated to have suffered a loss of several lakh rupees. Officials are currently inspecting the spot, and a further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire mishap.
