Xiaomi Strengthens Its Position in India’s Mid Premium Smartphone Market
Xiaomi reports strong growth in India’s mid premium smartphone segment driven by value focused strategy rising consumer demand and successful launches across price categories in the competitive market

Xiaomi has recorded a strong performance in India’s smartphone market, especially in the mid premium category, where the company is seeing rapid growth and renewed consumer interest. Over the past few months, Xiaomi has managed to significantly strengthen its position in one of the most competitive segments in the country.
Interestingly, the company’s biggest momentum has come from its shift in strategy. Instead of focusing only on increasing the number of launches, Xiaomi has moved towards offering better value driven devices. This change appears to be paying off as consumers increasingly prioritize overall experience rather than just specifications.
In a recent update, the company highlighted that it achieved nearly 212 percent year on year growth in the mid premium smartphone segment during the February to April period. Xiaomi defines this category as devices priced between 35000 and 50000 rupees. The company believes this growth reflects a clear shift in consumer expectations.
Market data from Counterpoint Research further supports this trend. In the first quarter of the year, Xiaomi posted double digit growth in the 10000 to 20000 rupee segment as well. Overall, the brand secured the fourth position in India’s smartphone market with a 7.9 percent share, which also includes sales from its sub brand Poco.
A major contributor to this performance has been the launch of devices like the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus 5G. Positioned in the mid premium range, the smartphone has been designed to balance performance and pricing. It comes with multiple storage variants, with prices starting from 37999 rupees depending on configuration.
The device features a large 6.83 inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and a high refresh rate, offering a smooth visual experience for users. It is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor and runs on Android 15 based HyperOS 2, aiming to deliver a refined and efficient user experience.
Photography has also been a key focus. The Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus 5G includes a 200 megapixel primary rear camera with optical image stabilization, making it capable of capturing detailed images in different lighting conditions. This has helped the device appeal to users who value camera performance in addition to everyday usability.
Battery life adds another strong advantage, with a 6500 mAh unit supported by 100 W fast charging. This combination ensures that users can rely on the device for extended usage without frequent charging interruptions, which is becoming increasingly important for modern smartphone buyers.
Xiaomi’s leadership believes that the evolving Indian smartphone market is moving away from volume driven sales to experience focused purchases. This shift has allowed the company to position itself more effectively in the mid premium segment, where competition continues to intensify.
As consumer preferences continue to change, Xiaomi’s current performance suggests that its value first approach is resonating well with buyers who are looking for a balanced combination of performance, design, and pricing in their smartphones.
