WhatsApp Plus Subscription Brings New Custom Features and Paid Benefits for Users
Meta is testing WhatsApp Plus as a premium subscription that offers customization tools, extra chat controls and exclusive features while keeping the core messaging experience free for all users worldwide

WhatsApp is entering a new phase of evolution with the introduction of WhatsApp Plus, a premium subscription model that has now been confirmed by Meta. While the regular app will continue to remain free, this new version is designed for users who want extra customization and advanced control over their messaging experience. Early testing has already begun on Android, and select iPhone users are also reportedly part of limited trials.
At its core, WhatsApp Plus does not change the basic experience that billions of users rely on every day. Chatting, calling, status updates and end to end encryption will remain completely free and unchanged. The subscription is only meant to add optional enhancements for those who want more flexibility and personalization inside the app.
One of the most noticeable upgrades in WhatsApp Plus is visual customization. Users may be able to choose from multiple interface themes that change the traditional green layout into different color styles. Reports suggest up to 18 theme options along with nearly 14 new app icons, giving users more freedom to personalize how WhatsApp looks on their device.
Chat management is also getting a major boost with this premium model. While free users can pin only a few chats, WhatsApp Plus is expected to allow up to 20 pinned conversations. This feature could be especially useful for people who manage work, family and multiple group chats at the same time and want quick access to important conversations.
Sticker lovers may also find added value in the subscription. WhatsApp Plus is expected to include exclusive premium sticker packs, including animated designs that can be viewed by all users regardless of subscription status. Along with this, new ringtone options such as Flutter, Tempo and Ripple are also being tested to offer a more personalized notification experience.
Another interesting feature under consideration is bulk customization. Instead of changing settings one chat at a time, users could apply themes, ringtones and notification preferences across multiple chats simultaneously. This would make personalization faster and more practical for heavy WhatsApp users.
Pricing for WhatsApp Plus is still not officially fixed, but early leaks suggest regional variation. In Europe, the subscription could cost around 2.49 euros per month, while in Pakistan it has been reported at approximately PKR 229 monthly. Some users may also receive free trial access depending on their region and testing phase.
Currently, WhatsApp Plus is not widely available and remains in a controlled testing stage. It is limited to WhatsApp Messenger users only and has not yet been extended to WhatsApp Business accounts. As testing expands, more clarity is expected on rollout timelines and final feature sets.
