WhatsApp Goes Native on CarPlay to Make Messaging Safer and Easier While Driving
Meta begins testing WhatsApp native CarPlay app enabling voice based messaging and calls with simple interface as company expands its services across more devices and connected car platforms

Meta is taking another step toward expanding its messaging ecosystem by bringing WhatsApp to in car systems through Apple CarPlay. The company has quietly rolled out a native CarPlay version of the app for beta testers, signaling its growing focus on connected driving experiences.
The new app is designed with simplicity in mind, prioritizing safety and ease of use while on the road. Instead of offering the full chat experience, the interface presents a clean list of recent conversations. Users can quickly glance at pinned chats, muted threads, and the latest messages without navigating through complex menus.
Voice interaction plays a central role in this version. Drivers can rely on Siri or built in voice commands to send messages or make calls, reducing the need to physically interact with the screen. This approach aligns with safety standards, ensuring minimal distraction during driving.
Even if a contact is not visible in the recent chats, users can tap on a new message option and select a contact from their address book. Messages can then be dictated using voice commands, making communication seamless without taking attention off the road.
The app also includes a dedicated calls section, allowing users to view recent call history and quickly return missed calls. A favorites section is expected to provide faster access to frequently contacted people, further improving usability for regular drivers.
Currently, the feature is limited to users enrolled in the TestFlight beta program and those with compatible vehicles that support CarPlay. While there is no official confirmation on a public release timeline, early testing suggests that Meta is actively working to refine the experience before a wider rollout.
At this stage, the CarPlay version of WhatsApp focuses on core communication features. Advanced options such as sending stickers or recording detailed voice messages are not yet available. However, future updates are likely to introduce more functionality as the platform evolves.
With this move, Meta continues to extend WhatsApp beyond smartphones, following its recent expansion to tablets and wearable devices. The CarPlay integration reflects a broader trend where messaging services are adapting to fit into everyday environments, including the driving experience.
