UPI will not work on these mobile numbers from April 1
UPI: From April 1, there may be issues making UPI payments through apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has advised banks and UPI apps to remove inactive mobile numbers from their systems.
If your bank account is linked to an inactive mobile number, it will be deleted and you may face difficulties while trying to make UPI payments. NPCI has taken this decision keeping in mind the increasing number of cyber-crime cases.

He pointed out that inactive mobile numbers can cause technical errors in banking and UPI systems. If the telecom provider has reassigned these numbers to someone else, it increases the possibility of fraud. The government’s responsibility is to ensure the safety of its citizens and protect them from such dangers.
It is very important to link an active mobile number to your bank account to facilitate UPI transactions. This number serves as a key identifier during payments, ensuring that the money reaches the intended recipient. If a mobile number is inactive and has been assigned to another person, it can lead to payment failures or payments being directed in the wrong direction.
If the mobile number linked to your bank account is not active or has not been recharged for a while, it is essential to check with your telecom provider (like Jio, Airtel, Vi, or BSNL) to ensure that the number is still active in your name.

If it is not, you should reactivate it immediately or update your bank account with a new mobile number. To keep things up to date, NPCI has instructed banks and UPI applications to update records of inactive mobile numbers every week. This move will ensure the removal of any inactive numbers from the banking system, starting from April 1.
