May 2026 will bring a strong lineup of smartphones in India across budget mid range and premium segments with OnePlus Oppo Vivo and HMD introducing new devices featuring bigger batteries faster processors advanced cameras and long term software support for users

The Indian smartphone market is heading into a busy phase as May 2026 is expected to bring several major launches across different price segments. From affordable 5G phones to high end flagship devices, brands like OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo and HMD are preparing to attract buyers who are waiting for a meaningful upgrade this summer season.
Interestingly, this wave of launches is not just about design refreshes. Manufacturers are focusing more on practical improvements such as larger batteries, higher refresh rate displays and stronger chipsets. Many of these upcoming devices are also expected to launch with Android 16 and promise longer software support, which is becoming a key decision factor for buyers.
OnePlus Nord CE 6 Lite is expected to arrive on May 7 and is already creating buzz in the mid range segment. It is likely to feature a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Apex processor along with a 144Hz display and a massive 7000mAh battery. OnePlus is positioning it as a performance focused phone that could easily last up to two days on a single charge, running OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16.
HMD is also preparing to expand its presence with the HMD Vibe 2 5G. While its exact launch date is still not confirmed, it is expected to debut in May and will be available via Flipkart. The phone will continue the brand’s focus on clean design with a flat display and centered punch hole camera, aiming at entry level 5G buyers who want a simple and reliable smartphone experience.
On the premium side, Oppo is preparing a strong lineup with the Find X9 Ultra. This flagship device is expected to come with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a 6.82 inch LTPO AMOLED display and extremely high brightness levels. Its camera system is expected to be one of the highlights with a 200MP primary sensor and a 200MP periscope telephoto lens, supported by a large 7050mAh battery and ultra fast charging options.
Alongside it, Oppo Find X9s will target users looking for a premium but slightly more affordable option. It is expected to feature the Dimensity 9500s processor, a 120Hz AMOLED display and a triple 50MP camera setup. With a battery capacity of over 7000mAh, it clearly focuses on long usage without frequent charging.
Vivo is also entering the flagship race with the Vivo X300 Ultra. Expected to launch in early May, it may feature Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a 200MP camera and a 6600mAh battery. One of the most interesting additions could be support for an external photography lens, which may appeal to users who are serious about mobile photography.
At the same launch event, Vivo is also expected to introduce the X300 FE. This model will likely offer a compact design with a 6.31 inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor and a 6500mAh battery. With 90W fast charging support, it is aimed at users who want flagship level performance in a smaller and more manageable form factor.
Overall, May 2026 is shaping up to be a competitive month for smartphones in India. With brands pushing stronger hardware and longer software support, users may finally have more meaningful choices rather than just incremental upgrades.
