Indian electric two wheeler maker Ultraviolette is preparing for its next phase of expansion after raising fresh capital from a group of investors. The company is looking beyond India and is planning to begin operations in the American market next year.
According to a media report, Ultraviolette has raised around 85 million dollars from investors including Yali Capital and TDK Ventures. The new funding is expected to support the development of electric vehicle platforms and help the company expand its presence in international markets.
The proposed entry into the United States is an important part of the companys overseas expansion plans. Ultraviolette already operates in India and has a presence in selected international markets, and the new investment could give it additional resources to develop products for a wider customer base.
Manufacturing capacity is also being expanded at the same time. Ultraviolette recently announced plans for a new manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Once the additional facility becomes operational, the company expects its annual production capacity to reach around five lakh electric two wheelers.
The company currently has manufacturing capacity of approximately 2.5 lakh units annually. The planned increase would allow Ultraviolette to produce more vehicles as demand grows in India and as it prepares for overseas markets.
One of the products that has attracted attention for the company is the Tesseract electric scooter. The model combines a sporty design with technology focused features and has received a positive response from customers, according to the supplied information.
The Tesseract has a design influenced by the appearance of a combat helicopter. Its styling includes sharp body lines, a distinctive front apron and twin headlamps with daytime running lights. The lines on the sides continue towards the rear lamp, giving the scooter a distinctive appearance.
The electric scooter is offered in Desert Sand, Sonic Pink, Solar White and Stealth Black colour options. Its equipment includes a 7 inch TFT touchscreen, built in navigation and ride analytics.
Practicality has also been considered in the design. The Tesseract provides 34 litres of storage space, giving riders room to carry everyday items without relying entirely on additional luggage.
Safety technology is another major part of the scooter. Ultraviolette has equipped the Tesseract with radar technology at the front and rear, along with a collision avoidance system. Lane change assistance and an integrated dashcam are also part of its technology package.
The performance figures put the Tesseract firmly in the high performance electric scooter category. It is equipped with a 6 kWh battery and an electric motor producing 20 hp of power.
The scooter is claimed to offer a range of around 260 kilometres on a single charge. It can accelerate from zero to 80 kilometres per hour in about 2.9 seconds and has a claimed top speed of approximately 125 kilometres per hour.
Ultraviolette has also been expanding beyond electric scooters. Last September, the company introduced the X 47 electric adventure touring motorcycle in India. The motorcycle is based on the companys sporty F77 Mach 2 platform and represents another step in its effort to build a broader electric two wheeler portfolio.
The companys latest funding comes at a time when electric mobility companies are looking for ways to expand production and develop products for international markets. For Ultraviolette, the combination of additional investment and higher manufacturing capacity could support both domestic growth and its planned overseas expansion.
The American market will bring a different set of requirements, including regulations, customer preferences, charging infrastructure and competition from established electric vehicle manufacturers. Ultraviolette will therefore need to adapt its products and business operations as it prepares for the proposed entry.
For now, the company is working on multiple fronts, from manufacturing expansion in Tamil Nadu to new electric vehicle platforms and international growth. The fresh funding is expected to provide financial support for these plans as Ultraviolette moves towards its next stage of development.
