The Central Government has made biometric Aadhaar authentication mandatory from October 1, 2026, for consumers who wish to continue receiving subsidised domestic LPG cylinders at concessional rates. LPG Subsidy Rule Changes: Aadhaar Biometric Authentication Mandatory From October 1.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the move is aimed at ensuring that LPG subsidies reach genuine beneficiaries, eliminating fake or duplicate connections, and preventing the misuse of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial and industrial purposes.
Customers who have already completed biometric Aadhaar authentication do not need to undergo the process again. They will continue to receive subsidised LPG cylinders without any interruption. However, customers who have not completed the authentication process will be allowed to book subsidised LPG cylinders only after successfully completing biometric verification.
As of September 19, 2026, nearly 89.9% of active LPG consumers—around 27.43 crore customers—had already completed biometric Aadhaar authentication, according to the ministry.
How to Complete Aadhaar Biometric Authentication:
Consumers can complete the verification through any of the following methods:
During LPG cylinder delivery through the delivery personnel.
At their local LPG distributor’s showroom or gas agency.
Using the official mobile applications of their respective oil marketing companies:

What Happens If You Skip Aadhaar Biometric Authentication?
Consumers who are unable or unwilling to complete biometric Aadhaar authentication will not lose their LPG connection. However, they must register their preference through the LPG company’s official portal, mobile app, WhatsApp service, or IVRS.
Such consumers will not be eligible for subsidised cylinders and will instead receive 5 kg or 10 kg LPG cylinders at market prices, subject to local availability.
The nationwide Aadhaar biometric authentication drive for LPG consumers has been underway since October 2023, with the deadline extended multiple times.
The government has now urged all remaining consumers to complete biometric Aadhaar authentication before October 1, 2026, to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of their LPG subsidy benefits.
