New York based plastic surgeon Dr Richard Westreich recently called it the New Carpal Tunnel Syndrome numbness and tingling in the arm and arm often associated with excessive use of smartphones.

“Take neck is the new carpal tunnel syndrome, an injury caused by repeated use that can cause headaches, neck and shoulder pain and tingling in the hands, but also deep wrinkles. Carpal tunnel syndrome is increasing due to excessive use of mobiles and computers, children and parents should be careful.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is said to cause the fingers of people who use a lot of mobile phones to become bend. Certain physical activities can aggravate the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and one such activity is holding a cellphone to your ear. Many patients notice the onset of carpal tunnel syndrome (numbness/tingling in the hand) symptoms while talking on their cellphone.

In people with mild carpal tunnel syndrome, the area through which the nerve travels becomes smaller, and therefore the pressure within the carpal tunnel is likely to increase with wrist flexion/extension.
In people with severe carpal tunnel syndrome, the space through which the nerve travels is so small that the pressure inside the carpal tunnel is greater than the 30 mm Hg threshold, even when the wrist is held in a neutral position.
