According to the current weather conditions, the symptoms of cyclone in the Arabian Sea have not appeared in severe form. But the depression is likely to intensify into a storm in the next two days and is being monitored. Once a cyclone forms, it will affect the Mumbai coast by October 21,” the India Meteorological Department has estimated.

If the bad weather in the Arabian Sea turns into a cyclone, the wind will blow at a speed of 60 km per hour. As a precautionary measure, the IMD has warned the fishermen not to go into the deep sea for the next three to four days. Coastal residents of Maharashtra and South Gujarat have been directed to keep abreast of the latest weather information and follow the instructions of local authorities.

It is estimated that some parts of the Konkan coastal region including Mumbai will receive rain for the next five days. At present, there is very little chance of this situation becoming a severe storm. Models are yet to confirm that. We will have to wait for more days to get a clear picture,” the Met department said.

Due to the warm temperature in the sea, there is a high possibility of cyclonic conditions in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian seas during October to December. Cyclones in the Arabian Sea have an uncertain track and seasonal history.
If a cyclone forms in the central part of the Arabian Sea, it usually moves towards Somalia, Gulf of Aden, Yemen and Oman. But in some cases, these cyclones take a circuitous route towards the coast of Gujarat and Pakistan, weather department said.
