The weather agency has also warned about the formation of the cyclonic storm Cyclone Mocha in the southeast Bay of Bengal, which is expected to make landfall on the eastern coast of the country between May 7 and May 9. In association with the likely formation of a cyclonic storm, the weatherman has warned fishermen not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas from Sunday onwards.

“Fishermen, small ships, boats and trawlers are advised not to venture into southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas from May 7 onwards and into adjoining central BoB from May 9 onwards”, said HR Biswas, Head & Scientist, MeT centre, Bhubaneswar.

According to IMD officials, the influence of wind is sparse over inland Karnataka from Southwest Madhya Pradesh to Tamil Nadu. There is also a cyclonic circulation over North Tamil Nadu. Due to the formation of these systems, rainfall is predicted.

While there will be light to moderate rain during the day, most of the interior parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, are expected to witness thundershowers during the night. Officials said that clouds will also form in the coming days and there is a possibility of heavy rain.

However, the IMD officials have not issued any warning to Bengaluru. At present the rain has brought some respite from the summer heat. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while the international airport recorded 29.9 degrees Celsius and the HAL airport 29.2 degrees Celsius.
