Shakti Yojana: inter states travel also free but condition apply

The Karnataka government has advised the women to apply for Shakti smart cards to avail the free travel in state run buses, starting from Today (June 11). Shakti Yojana: inter states travel also free but condition applies.

Women can travel free in government buses in Karnataka under Shakti Yojana. In addition, free travel up to 20 km can be done in neighbouring states. This means that women from places like Bellary can travel for free in buses up to a distance of 20 km in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said before launching the project.

However, women traveling from Bengaluru to Hosuru for work will not benefit from the free travel provision as they exceed the 20 km limit. Talking to the media representatives about this, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the beneficiaries can travel up to 20 km in the neighbouring states.

For example, Siddaramaiah said that women traveling up to 20 km from Bellary within Andhra Pradesh can travel in buses for free. However, this service is not applicable for women using interstate buses. “If a woman wants to go to Tirupati, she cannot travel for free”.

The government said the benefits of the scheme can be availed in the buses operated by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) and Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC).
