Paternity leave: Now Karnataka Male Employees get 6 months paternity leave

Male government employees, who are single parents, are now entitled to childcare leave for 180 days in Karnataka, said an order issued by the State government on Friday. Paternity leave: Now Karnataka Male Employees get 6 months paternity leave.

‘Single male parent’ includes employees who are unmarried, divorced or are widowers and might take up the responsibility of caring for a child single-handedly, the order said. If an employee gets married during the childcare leave, the leave gets cancelled, the order added.

The Central government had made a similar provision for its employees about three years ago. Accordingly, unmarried, divorced or widowed male State Government employees who are single parents are also granted parental leave with immediate effect for a maximum period of 6 months.

Paternity leave not exceeding a total of 180 days in their entire service. Ajay S Korade, Under Secretary to the Government of Finance Department has issued an order in this regard.

Thus, in this order, parental leave shall be granted by applying the conditions as the case may be. If the employee gets married during the period of leave, the Paternity leave will be cancelled from that date.
