But that’s not all to the rainy madness. Some parts of Rayalaseema and Interior Karnataka could also be in for very heavy rains (115.6 mm-204.5 mm) on Wednesday. Extremely heavy downpours (greater than 204.5) are also expected over Coastal Karnataka on the same day.

Under these conditions, both Urban and Rural parts of Bengaluru are likely to have light to moderate precipitation along with strong and gusty winds on the cards for the next five days. Daytime temperatures will hover around a pleasant to cold 26°C during this time as a result. The effect of these rains has, however, prompted IMD to place the state on varying high-level alerts.

On Wednesday, Coastal Karnataka has been assigned a red warning (meaning ‘take action’), while the remaining subdivisions are on orange alert (meaning ‘be prepared’). Only Coastal Karnataka will retain an orange alert by Thursday.

Meanwhile, Uttar Kannada and Chikmagalur districts have also been placed on the red warning for Wednesday while Kodagu, Dakshin Kannada, Udupi, Shimoga and Belgaum are on the orange alert. All of these districts will turn orange on Thursday, along with Gulbarga.

In addition, a moderate flash flood alert has been placed over a few watersheds and neighbourhoods of the Coastal Karnataka, NI Karnataka and SI Karnataka subdivisions for the next 24 hours. Surface runoff or inundation may occur at areas with fully saturated soils and low-lying places.
