According to reports, 32 transport unions have told reporters that they are affected by the ‘Shakti scheme’ implemented by the current Congress government in the southern state after its landslide victory in the May 10 Assembly elections.

What are the demands of private transporters?

Union members have demanded financial aid Rs 10000 per driver and ban on bike taxis, complete ban on app-based taxi, and establishment of a corporation to support unorganized commercial drivers, scholarships for children of drivers, low-interest loans and many more.

Auto rickshaws, private taxi, cabs and school buses are expected to take part in the strike, but the impact on daily life is not yet certain. In the past, such strikes have failed to affect business and travel in the city.
