Bengaluru Bandh on September 11: what will open and what will close

private taxi and bus associations of Bengaluru have announced a strike on September 11 (Monday). BMTC plans to deploy extra buses to meet the demand amid the strike.

The private taxi and bus associations of Bengaluru have announced a strike on September 11 (Monday). In this backdrop, most of the private transport in the city is expected to be closed.

As Monday is a working day for IT employees and other commuters, BMTC plans to deploy extra buses to meet the demand amid the strike. Since the launch of Shakti Yojana for free bus travel for women in Karnataka, private entrepreneurs in the transport industry have been complaining that they are suffering from this scheme.

Earlier, they met the Transport Minister and requested him to include private buses in the Shakti Yojana and pay the losses.

What demands of private transporters:

Union members have demanded financial aid and ban on bike taxis, complete ban on app-based aggregators, establishment of a corporation to support unorganized commercial drivers, scholarships for children of drivers, low-interest loans and Rs 10,000 per driver.

A top official of the Federation of Karnataka State Private Transport Association told reporters that the strike was postponed to July 27 after state transport minister Ramalinga Reddy had earlier promised to take action. By the end of last month, Reddy had promised to fulfill 28 of 30 demands.

Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalingareddy said that he would take notice of the Chief Minister and discuss the issues with him. The unions have decided to hold a one-day strike on September 11 in the wake of the government’s refusal to listen.
