With the launch of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) programme, the Congress government in the state is fulfilling one more of its five polls ‘guarantees’ (promises) announced in the run-up to the elections held in May. The Karnataka government, under its Anna Bhagya scheme, will transfer Rs 170 towards an additional 5 kg rice per beneficiary of the below poverty line (BPL) families.

The funds will be directly deposited into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries linked to the Aadhaar numbers of the BPL family heads. The scheme will be launched by CM Siddaramaiah at the Conference Hall of Vidhana Soudha at 5 pm today by distributing checks to a few beneficiaries.

The Karnataka government on Monday started transferring money under its Anna Bhagya scheme to bank accounts of entitled BPL card-holders. Those entitled to access the scheme can check the status of the money transfer by visiting the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumers Affairs Department website.

Card-holders can check the status of the money deposited in their bank accounts by visiting Food, Civil Supplies & Consumers Affairs Department website, by clicking on the link.

And entering their ration card number to find out the status of the money transfer to them. The Karnataka government decided to give money to beneficiaries instead of rice after facing difficulties in procuring rice required for the programme. The government decided to give Rs 36 per kg, instead of the five kg rice it promised. The money will be transferred to the head of the family’s account.

The person of the family who receives the amount under the Anna Bhagya scheme will also be alerted via SMS once the money is transferred to the account. E-KYC and linking of Aadhar card to the ration card is a prime requisite to access the Anna Bhagya scheme. Anna Bhagya is one of five election promises made by the Congress. Each member of the Below Poverty Line (BPL) card holder gets 10 kg of free rice under the scheme.

Eligibility:

In order to avail the benefits of this scheme, an applicant needs to be a permanent resident of Karnataka.

Only those applicants who belong to the below poverty line (BPL) families or hold the Antyodaya Anna Card are eligible for this scheme.
