Diwali Dhamaka for Employees: Govt hikes 4 Percent Dearness Allowance

Big gift for Diwali, the Assam government has hiked the Dearness Allowance (DA) of state government employees by 4 percent. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced a 4 per cent additional Dearness Allowance for all the state government employees All India Service Officers. The DA increase will be effective from July 1, 2022. Happy to announce 4% additional Dearness Allowance for State Govt employees/All India Service Officers with effect from 1st July, 2022, payable with this month’s salary, CM Himanta Sarma tweeted, hoping that this “will add to the festive fervour”.

“Also extending my good wishes for an auspicious and happy Deepawali!” the CM added. The increased DA will be paid with the pay of October 2022. This follows the Centre’s decision to revise upwards the DA of central government staff by 4 per cent to 38 per cent last month. The union government also hiked the dearness relief (DR) for pensioners with the same percentage.

The DA hike for the central government staff will be effective from July 1, 2022. The government allocated Rs 12, 852 crore for the outlay against the DA hike for over 50 lakh government employees and about 62 lakh pensioners ahead of the festive season. In line with the Centre, the following states have also implemented a DA hike for their employees:

Punjab

On Friday, Punjab joined the list of states that announced DA hike for government employees ahead of Diwali. The state government announced a 6 per cent DA hike for its employees and pensioners, effective from October 1, 2022.

Haryana

Punjab’s neighbouring state Haryana also announced a 4 per cent DA hike for the state government employees who have been drawing their salary as per the 7th Pay Commission structure earlier this week. The increased DA will be paid with the salary of October.

Delhi

Earlier this month, the Delhi government issued an order to increase the dearness allowance of its employees by 4 per cent.

Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh government has increased the DA and DR to 38 per cent for the state government employees and pensioners, with effect from July 1. As a Diwali gift, the state government also decided to provide a bonus of Rs 6,908 to each employee for the financial year 2021-22.
