WPL 2023: UP Warriorz entered play-offs beat GG; RCB playoffs dream finally dashed out

Mumbai: The UP Warriorz Women team has reached the play-off stage of the Women’s Premier League 2023 after winning a thrilling 3-wicket win against the Gujarat Giants Women. If UP Warriorz had lost today’s match, RCB’s dream would have been alive. But with the defeat of Gujarat, UP Warriorz have entered the play off stage as the 3rd team with 4 wins and 3 losses from 7 matches. Mumbai Indians, who have already earned 10 points from 6 matches with 5 wins and one loss, and Delhi Capitals, who have earned 8 points from 6 matches with 4 wins and losses, have reached the play-off stage.

Batting first in the 17th league match held at the Brabourne Stadium,Mumbai, Gujarat Giants collected a good total of 178 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Dayalan Hemalatha scored 57 runs off 33 balls and Ashley Gardner scored a thunderous 60 runs off 39 balls. Chasing the target, UP Warriorz lost 3 wickets for 39 runs and fell into a spiral of defeat.

But for the 4th wicket, Australian players Tahlia McGrath and Grace Harris made a partnership of 78 runs in just 53 balls and led to the victory of the team. After Tahlia McGrath got out for 57 runs in 38 balls, Grace Harris continued to play with 7 fours and 4 sixes in 41 balls and led the team to the play-offs.

Smriti Mandhana-led Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are out of the play-off race, will face Mumbai Indians in their final league match today (Tuesday). The RCB team has earned a total of 4 points with 5 losses and 2 wins in the 7 league matches they have played and is at the 4th position in the points table.
