However, there is still no guarantee that this match will take place. Although the Pakistan team has approved the ICC’s draft schedule, the government is saying everything will be decided. Before that, it had expressed various objections including expressing opposition to organizing the match at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Now the government of Pakistan has instructed the high level committee to announce a clear decision in this regard. If the committee does not want to go, then the match cancellation is guaranteed. A high-level committee headed by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will decide Pakistan’s participation in ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed this committee to oversee the protection of Pakistan as it has decided to travel to Pakistan for the 2023 One Day World Cup to be held in October-November. The move was taken in response to a letter written by the Pakistan Cricket Board to their government seeking permission to travel to the neighbouring country.

The Pakistan team last toured India for an ODI and T20I series in 2012-13. Since then, the two teams have faced each other only in ICC tournaments, that too in neutral places. Both the teams have not played since the T20I World Cup 2022 match held in Melbourne, Australia.

Apart from playing against India in Ahmedabad, the Pakistan team will travel to four other cities in India for their group stage matches. As per the schedule, Pakistan will play Netherlands and Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, India in Ahmedabad, Australia and New Zealand in Bengaluru, Bangladesh and England in Kolkata and finally Afghanistan and South Africa in Chennai.

Apart from Foreign Minister Zardari, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and Law and Justice Minister Azam Nazir Tarar are other representatives of the Sharif committee in the new committee formed by Pakistan. The high-level meeting will include big names like Rehman Mazari, Maryam Aurangzeb, Asad Mehmood, Aminul Haq, Qamar Zaman Kaira and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi.

Due to the political tension between the two countries, this is the first time in the history of the Pakistan team that such a high-level committee has been formed. Earlier, the PCB used to seek permission from the External Affairs Minister before sending the team to India. Earlier, reports suggested that the Pakistan board had to send representatives to inspect the team’s World Cup venues.
