Women IPL 2023: BCCI to allow 5 foreign players in Playing XI

Women IPL 2023 : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to launch Women IPL 2023 in March this year. The board is leaving no stone unturned in making the Women’s IPL 2023 tournament a successful one. In the latest update, the board has decided to ring in a big change in terms of overseas players’ quota in the WIPL teams. A total of 5 foreign players will be allowed to feature in the Starting XI. According to report, BCCI is set to allow five foreign players in the playing XI which includes one cricketer from an Associate country.A source connected to Women IPL 2023 spoke to the website and said, “The teams will have the option of fielding five foreign players as long as the fifth player is from an Associate nation,”. This rule will be completely different from the IPL rules where four overseas players are allowed in each team.

BCCI set Salary cap for Women IPL 2023

Apart from changing the foreign player’s quota rule, BCCI is also set to have a salary cap for the Women IPL 2023 auction. As per the report the Indian board has set INR 12 crore as the salary cap. Besides the salary cap, the fund size will also see an increment annually.

The funds will have an annual increment of INR 1.5 crore in the next four years. Therefore, the fund size is expected to rise to INR 18 crore by the end of the first five-year cycle. There is, however, no provision for the icon players in the five-team league.

According to the figures given by the website, the BCCI has stated that the player purse will start with INR 12 crore in 2023 and will increase to INR 13.5 crore in 2024. In 2025 it is expected to rise to INR 15 crore, INR 16.5 crore in 2026, and finally INR 18 crore in 2027. The guideline has been set for the first five years during which there will be five teams in the first three years and six teams in the last two years of the cycle.

After selling media rights to Viacom 18, BCCI is geared up to announce the owners of the franchise on January 25th. Overall 30 companies have picked tender documents to win the Women IPL Franchise. The list includes all 10 Indian Premier League teams.

Defending IPL champions Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings all have confirmed that they will be bidding for WIPL Teams. The base price is not set and bids will be accepted for a 10-year period (2023-32).

The BCCI will open the sealed bids on January 25 and will announce the winner of the franchises. January 23 is the deadline to submit the technical bids for evaluation, which the BCCI will conduct along with the Mumbai-based law firm Argus Partners.
