Sri Lanka is coming off a victory in the previous game against Ireland; Australia faced a humiliating defeat against New Zealand in their campaign opener as they lost the contest by 89 runs. Australia, by virtue of their point’s table standing, had qualified for the Super 12 stage T20 World Cup 2022 early on,

But Sri Lanka had to carve their path towards the second round after emerging on top of the Group a points table in the first round. The Aaron Finch-led side will now be looking for redemption and would be hoping to open their account in the tournament. In Australia’s first game against the previous year’s finalists New Zealand, the Kane Williamson-led side batted first and put up a humungous 200/3 on the scoreboard.

Given Australia’s batting unit, it looked like they would chase it down, but the Kiwi bowlers put forth a nightmare and dished Australia out for mere 111 runs during their chase. Although Perth’s pitch may be flatter than usual, the pace bowlers should expect to get some assistance from the surface later. This match is expected to be played on what is traditionally regarded as a batting-friendly surface. On this track, the spinners receive limited support.
