State sports minister become match winner, West Bengal’s Sports Minister Manoj Tiwary stepped onto the field and ensured Bengal reach the semi-final of Rani Trophy2022 by scoring a stunning century vs Jharkhand. Sports Minister hit century in Ranji Trophy quarter-final 2022.

West Bengal have stretched their lead over the 750-run mark on the final day of the fourth quarter-final of the Ranji Trophy against Jharkhand. The Bengal minister walked back after an impressive 136 runs off 185 balls. This is his first first-class hundred after becoming the Sports Minister of Bengal.

His last triple-digit score was an unbeaten 303 against Hyderabad in the 2019-20 season. Manoj has been a central figure for the Bengal team for years when he has been guiding the team’s batting line-up as well as the youngsters in the team.

The 36-year-old former Bengal captain joined the TMC ahead of the Assembly polls and won the Shibpur constituency, beating BJP’s Rathin Chakraborty in 2021. He is currently serving as the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs in the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government.

Earlier in 2021, Manoj Tiwary was named in the 21-man Bengal squad for the Ranji Trophy before the tournament was rescheduled. He was part of Bengal’s Ranji Trophy final against Saurashtra in 2020.

Tiwary returned to competitive action during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 and last played competitive cricket in January last year. He played 12 ODIs and 3 T20Is for India, with his last appearance coming in 2015. Tiwary has played 125 first-class matches and 163 List A matches, scoring over 14000 runs in domestic cricket.
