Sourav Ganguly Former BCCI President gets ‘Z Category’ Security

The West Bengal government has decided to upgrade the security cover of former Indian cricket team captain and former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly to ‘Z category’, a senior official said. Sourav Ganguly Former BCCI President gets ‘Z Category’ Security.

The decision was taken on Tuesday following the expiry of the tenure of Y category security provided to Ganguly. The official stated that, once the security cover for the VVIP had expired, a comprehensive evaluation was carried out in accordance with established procedures.

This assessment ultimately resulted in the determination to enhance the former India skipper’s security arrangement to the esteemed Z category. On May 16, representatives from the state secretariat convened a meeting at Ganguly’s Behala office.

Engaging with officers from Kolkata Police headquarters Lalbazar as well as the local police station, to discuss the security protocol, the official added. Under the enhanced security arrangement, Ganguly will be provided protection by a team of 8 to 10 police personnel, ensuring his safety and well-being, the official further explained.

Previously, under the Y category security cover, Ganguly had three Special Branch policemen accompanying him, along with an equal number of law enforcement officers guarding his residence in Behala.
