RCB finally announced captain for IPL 2022

Big day for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans. After a long wait RCB finally announced captain for IPL 2022. Royal Challengers Bangalore have unveiled Faf du Plessis, one of their big-ticket signings at the mega auction, as captain for Tata IPL 2022, ending weeks of speculation over Virat Kohli successor at the franchise. This is the first time du Plessis has been entrusted with RCB captain responsibilities by an IPL team.

“I couldn’t be happier to pass on the baton to a good friend, someone I’ve known over the years,” Kohli said in a recorded video. “We’ve been in touch for many years now. He’s one of the few guys I’ve gotten to know a little bit more apart from the cricket. My partnership with Faf is going to be exciting. The squad we’ve put together is amazing. Our team looks balanced and strong, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Royal Challengers Bangalore fended off a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings to buy Faf du Plessis for Rs 7 crore from the list of 10 marquee players in Tata IPL 2022. Du Plessis has been one of the most consistent players in the IPL so far as the former CSK star has scored 2935 runs in 100 matches in the IPL.

Speaking about the new captain, Mike Hesson, Director of Cricket Operations, RCB said, “I would like to extend my best wishes to Faf du Plessis on being appointed as RCB captain. Faf is not only a world class player, he has also shown tremendous ability to lead on the international stage in all three formats of the game. His contribution on the field is eminent but a leader who leads by example is very inspiring to any team.
