“I have been at Punjab Kings since 2018 and I take a lot of pride in representing this fantastic unit. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the team,” Agarwal, one of two players retained by the franchise ahead of the latest mega auction – medium-pacer Arshdeep Singh was the other – said in a statement issued by the Kings on Monday morning. “I take over this responsibility with utmost sincerity, but at the same time, I believe my job would be made easier with the talent we have at the Punjab Kings squad this season.

Mayank Agarwal, who has played 47 matches for Punjab Kings, has scored 1317 runs so far. He has become the second top scorer, scoring over 400 runs in the last two seasons. So, this time Punjab Kings retained Mayank Agarwal. Now another Kannadiga will lead the team after KL Rahul.
He was their first retention for Rs 12 crore and despite his not-too-illustrious T20I career, remained their most expensive player after the IPL 2022 Auction. More importantly, he knows how the franchise works both on and off the field. There’s just one thing going against him he doesn’t have much to back him in terms of experience in terms of leading a high-level team.
Liam Livingstone INR 11.5 crore, Kagiso Rabada INR 9.25 crore, Shahrukh Khan INR 9 crore highest bid players. In Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone, Punjab has two of the most dangerous hitters of the ball against any type of bowling in the top and middle order.
Shah Rukh Khan who was touted as a one to watch out for went for big money to the Kings. West Indies bowling allrounder Odean Smith is also an excellent buy for the team. Kagiso Rabada will lead a bowling attack that includes Smith and left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh and possibly Raj Bawa, who was one of the leading fast bowlers at the recent Under-19 World Cup.
