Bad news for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fans, KKR top batsman Ajinkya Rahane out from IPL 2022. Kolkata Knight Riders opening batsman Ajinkya Rahane was ruled out of the Indian Premier League on Tuesday due to a hamstring injury, KKR announces on Twitter.

Ajinkya Rahane got the injury during KKR’s last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday at Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune. In KKR’s previous game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rahane got injured while batting and later, he did not come to the field as well. In the same match, Rahane scored 28 runs off 24 balls with the help of three sixes. KKR had picked up Rahane for Rs 1 crore in the mega auction held in Bengaluru in February IPL 2022.

KKR is currently in sixth place in the points table with 12 points from 13 games. The side will next square off against Lucknow Super Giants. Rahane made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut against Deccan Chargers at DY Patil Sports Complex in Mumbai on April 27, 2008, and was dismissed for a duck.

He got limited opportunities while playing for Mumbai Indians and was picked up by Rajasthan Royals as Shane Warne (mentor and coach of RR) was impressed by his hitting skills during a match against Australia A. He rose to prominence under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid, as he scored well for Rajasthan Royals during that phase.

Later, Rahane played for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and 2017 seasons, when Rajasthan Royals was facing a 2-year ban. In 2018, Rahane was brought back by the Rajasthan franchise for Rs 4 crore using the Right-to-Match card.

In 151 IPL matches he has played so far, Rahane has scored 3941 runs at an average of 31.53 and a strike rate of 121.34. He has two centuries and 28 fifties against his name, with an unbeaten 105 in the 2019 edition being his best IPL score.
