Big change Azaan timing: A major decision has been taken at a meeting of Muslim religions for all the mosques in the Karnataka, change the Azaan timing at 6 am instead of 5 am every day.

At the Shariat-e-Hind Organization meeting, Muslim leaders, mulwis are scheduled to use the loudspeaker to Azaan at 6 am.

Speaking to reporters, Umar Sharif said, “The decision has been made to Azaan at 6 am at all the mosques in the state. All mosque leaders have agreed to this decision. No one objected to this. At 5 am in the morning, will not do the Azaan.

IMD warned heavy rainfall: Deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada Dr Rajendra K V and Udupi DC M Kurma Rao on Monday May 16, warned of a heavy rainfall that has been forecast for the coastal districts during the next five days. In a press release, the district disaster management authority has issued a red alert on May 18 while an orange alert has been sounded out on May 17 and 19 in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district. Public and fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea or the river.

Children have also been warned not to stand near electric wires or buildings or near the trees. People living in low-lying areas have been told to shift to safer locations, a press release added. On Monday, heavy rains along with thunderstorms lashed Mangaluru and other parts of coastal Karnataka.

Chamarajanagar, Tumakuru, Shivamogga, Hassan, Bengaluru and other parts of south-interior Karnataka received moderate spells of rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 30-40 kilometre per hour during the evening.

While the northeastern states have been experiencing rainfall activity for a while now, the rain spells received a major boost in terms of their strength and distribution last week due to the influence of Cyclone Asani. Now, it appears the region is unlikely to be spared by the rain gods anytime soon.
