The first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series is being held at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium here, and Murphy, who showed spin magic in the first innings for the Aussies, has achieved the feat of taking five wickets in one innings. Through this, he has entered the record page with the distinction of being the second Australian spinner to take 5 wickets against Team India in India.

The young spinner, who did not have much experience in first-class and List ‘A’ cricket, was selected by the Australian team for their Test team and allowed Murphy to play in the first Test by leaving out the experienced spinner Ashton Agar. The young player, who paid the price for the promise placed on him by the Aussie team management, took five wickets on the second day of the match and was named the best bowler of the Aussie team. Also, he is the youngest bowler to take 5 wickets in Test cricket for Aussies.

On the first day of the match, Murphy dismissed set batsman KL Rahul and gave the Kangaroos their first success, on the second day, the star batsmen of Team India like Cheteshwar Pujara (7), Virat Kohli (12) and R Ashwin ( 23) drew him out and drew attention. After the tea break on the second day, wicketkeeper batsman KS Bharath (8), who was playing his Test debut for India, was bowled for LLBW and achieved a five-wicket haul.

Despite having veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who has taken more than 450 Test wickets, the young off-spinner who bowled for him made a special record. He became the second off-spinner to take 5 wickets against Team India in India. Even Nathan Lyon, who has played more than 100 Tests for Aussies, has not been able to do this so far. Jason Krezza is the first off-spinner to achieve this feat. Krejha achieved this feat in the Test match held in Nagpur during the 2008 tour of India.

Murphy is also the 37th bowler to take 5 wickets in his Test debut for the Australian team. Murphy earned a place in the Aussie senior squad based on his impressive performances for Australia’s junior team in under-19 cricket.
