India vs New Zealand T20 Series: opening batsman ruled out, scheduled and timing

India will face New Zealand in 1st T20I on January 27, JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi. Team India’s good start to 2023 became even better as the hosts sealed the ODI series against New Zealand 3-0 and also became the No. 1 team in the world in the 50-over format. India vs New Zealand T20 Series: opening batsman ruled out, scheduled and timing.

India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad is likely to miss the entire T20 series against New Zealand after suffering a wrist injury. He has reported to the National Cricket Academy on Tuesday. While he was supposed to report in Ranchi on Wednesday, he informed BCCI Medical Team of pain in his right wrist.

However, it is unlikely that BCCI will name any replacement. India already has three openers in the squad. Prithvi Shaw is frontrunner to make a comeback Seniors including skipper Rohit Sharma and his predecessor Virat Kohli will not be part of the series and Hardik Pandya will continue to lead the young brigade.

Most of the squad is retained from the one that played against Sri Lanka, apart from one or two players. Left-arm spinning all-rounder Axar Patel has taken a leave owing to personal reasons and hence Kuldeep Yadav has earned a recall while Prithvi Shaw, on the back of scintillating performances across formats in domestic cricket, too returned to the final after a long hiatus.

Sanju Samson is still recovering from the knee injury he suffered in the first T20I against Sri Lanka and hence, Jitesh Sharma stays in the side as the second wicket-keeper.
