India vs Australia: Rohit Sharma loses Test captaincy: BCCI made an important decision

India vs Australia: Team India is playing for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma’s Test captaincy is in trouble. After taking over the captaincy from Virat Kohli, Rohit led the Indian team in two major ICC tournaments, Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. But Rohit Sharma has failed to produce any result in major 2 ICC tournaments. Along with this, the series against Australia has become a tough challenge for Rohit’s Test leadership. Along with winning the Border Gavaskar Series which started from the today 9th of February, Team India must win the ICC World Test Championship Final.

If this is the case, Hitman will continue as the Test captain for a few more days or else KL Rahul or someone else may replace him. Some reports says that BCCI has already brought this matter to Rohit’s attention. India last won the ICC trophy in 2013. After that, in 2018, they won the Asia Cup. After Rohit became the captain.

Team India is performing super in the bilateral series. India has earned the number one ranking in ODIs and T20Is. No matter how good they are in the bilateral series, India have not been performing as expected during the ICC Trophy. So BCCI is also eagerly waiting for the ICC trophy.

A BCCI official said that he has already told Rohit that he cannot afford to lose another ICC trophy in the current situation. If we don’t win the World Cup, all our wins in bilateral series will be wasted. In fact, as the 2021-23 WTC ends with the final, the BCCI hopes to start 2023-25 under new leadership.

There is no talk of leadership change. But to continue as captain in the new year, Rohit Sharma is highly dependent on the outcome of the Test World Cup. The ICC has revealed the date and venue of the much awaited World Test Championship 2021-23 final. This Test World Cup match will be held at the Oval in London from June 7 to 11.
