Suryakumar is the only Indian player to get the nomination alongside Sikandar Raza, Sam Curran and Mohammad Rizwan, players that have had an exemplary 2022. The Indian right handed batter was leagues ahead of his compatriots, scoring 1164 runs. Virat Kohli was the closest to Surya, but had a massive dearth in numbers against the former and scored 781 runs, which included a century against Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup.

Surya’s tally of 68 sixes in the calendar year in T20Is is the highest anyone has recorded in the format in a year by a fair distance. With two hundreds and nine half-centuries in the year, Yadav was the standout men’s T20I batter.

Alongside Surya, T20 World Cup winner and player of the tournament Sam Curran is also one of the frontrunners to pick up the award. Curran was brilliant throughout the T20 World Cup and dominated the wicket taking statistics. Sikandar Raza is the underdog in this list, but he has had the best ever season by a Zimbabwean in T20 cricket.

Raza has 735 runs and 25 wickets from just 24 matches.Barring these three, Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan has also been nominated in the four-man list after scoring 960 runs from 25 matches. Rizwan won the award in 2021.

None of the other India players have been named in the list after an overall poor year for Indian cricket. The Indian team, despite tremendous bilatral record in 2022 failed to stamp their authority in the global tournament. Suryakumar Yadav was the standout batter in the line-up in all the series he played in 2022 and hit several memorable knocks along the way.
