ICC World Cup 2023: BCCI calls special general meeting today

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called a Special General Meeting (SGM) on 27th May in Ahmedabad to discuss a five-point agenda ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023 to be hosted in India. The meeting headed by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah will make decisions on many major issues.

The working group for the mega-event this year will consist of BCCI president, secretary, treasurer, acting CEO and other senior officials. The Main agenda to be discussed at the SGM includes infrastructure development, guidelines for appointment of physiotherapists and trainers in-state teams.

Formation of working group for ICC World Cup 2023, formation of committee of Women’s Premier League and ratification of prevention of sexual harassment policy. BCCI has reportedly allocated funds for infrastructure of the stadiums which need revamping to make things more spectator friendly.

A committee for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will also be formed to look into the development of the league as well as finalise the window for this competition. The officials have thought about the idea of having the league during Diwali but will clash with the ODI World Cup, which means another window will be finalised.

The ODI World Cup is likely to begin on October 5. “This year, Australian women’s team will be playing international matches till third week of February and hence you can only start WPL after that. In case, you are looking at Diwali window, then there is men’s World Cup,” a franchisee official told on conditions of anonymity.
