These comments were made by the 49-year-old when speaking with Sportstar. “I would like India to win, but my top four world cup semi-finals would be India, Pakistan, Australia, and England,” Tendulkar stated. The former Indian captain also predicted that New Zealand and South Africa could surprise.

“New Zealand is a dark horse, as is South Africa because they are familiar with the conditions.” Pitches are more or less the same, which is why I say the same thing. But the top four would be there, and the other two are dark horses who might slip in through the back door,” added the batting champion.

When asked about the recent upsets in the first round of the T20 World Cup, Tendulkar stated that T20 cricket does not provide recovery time. Therefore associate teams can surprise anyone. “See, the gap is bridged only in shorter formats. The moment you get into longer formats… I was watching Namibia and the Netherlands yesterday, and they played good cricket,” said Tendulkar.

“In the shorter format, associate teams stand a reasonable chance to surprise the opposition because there’s not much time for recovery.
