The much-awaited India vs New Zealand series will get underway on Friday with a T20I match at the SKY Stadium in Wellington. The two nations will cross swords in a three-match T20I series before locking horns in a three-match ODI series. Hardik Pandya captain, VVS Laxman Coach for Team India T20 cricket.

The BCCI has rested a majority of the T20 cricket World Cup 2022 squad members for the tour of New Zealand. Regular skipper Rohit Sharma and Vice-captain KL Rahul will miss the series along with star batter Virat Kohli, experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik.

With Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli all rested, India’s top order will be the first to get a look in after T20 World Cup disaster. But India has a whole lot of options, especially with Shubman Gill in the T20 mix. However, he will have to wait for Suryakumar Yadav or Deepak Hooda to get the slot.

Coach VVS Laxman praised Hardik Pandya and said that he is a great leader. While talking to the media, coach Laxman said, “Hardik Pandya is a great leader. We have seen what he has done in IPL in Gujarat (Gujarat Titans). Someone playing a leadership role in the first year and winning the cup is no mean feat. He is not only tactically good, but he is also very calm on the field.

VVS Laxman, the acting head coach of Team India for the New Zealand tour, further said that it is very important when you are playing at the highest level. Because there will be situations where you will be under pressure and then as a captain or leader you need to stay calm.
