Chris Gayle ‘Universe boss’ out from IPL 2022

BCCI Friday released 1214 players list for IPL mega auction. The list was sent to the ten franchises involved in the IPL. The mega auction is scheduled to be held on February 12 & 13 in Bengaluru. After players list release fans got shocked because all time IPL entertainer universal boss Chris Gayle out of IPL 2022.

Gayle has represented the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Punjab Kings over the last 14 years. Big name missing from the IPL 2022 player list. Despite the ‘Universe Boss’ playing for so many teams, most fans are posting his pictures in the RCB jersey and adding that it will be the first time both AB de Villiers and Gayle will be missing from an IPL edition.

Universe boss Chris Gayle has turned 42 today. While he is currently one of the oldest active cricketers in the world, there is no denying that only a few players can smack the ball as hard as the West Indies star even now. Gayle made his IPL debut in 2009 and has played at least one match in every IPL season since then. The left-handed batsman has represented three teams, namely the Punjab Kings, the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in his IPL career so far.

Gayle has played 140 IPL matches, amassing 4,950 runs at an average of 40.24. Chris Gayle holds the record for the highest individual score in an Indian Premier League innings. Donning the Royal Challengers Bangalore jersey in a match against Pune Warriors during IPL 2013, Gayle played an incredible knock of 175 runs. The left-handed batsman hit 13 fours and 17 maximums in his entertaining innings that lasted 66 balls.

Another entry from the once-in-a-lifetime innings played by Chris Gayle is the record for the fastest century in IPL history. Gayle took only 30 balls to complete his ton that evening. Generally, if a batsman scores a half-century in 30 balls, it is considered that he is playing well. But Gayle managed to score 100 runs from just 30 deliveries against Pune in 2013 to create a record that is unlikely to ever be broken.

After going unsold at IPL Auction 2011, Gayle came back as a replacement and won the Orange Cap by scoring 608 runs in 12 matches. The following season, he amassed 733 runs at an average of 61.08 to win back-to-back Orange Cap awards. Over 1200 players (1214 precisely) have made it to the initial list of the auction register shared with the IPL franchises on Friday night (January 22). Some of the big international names who have made themselves available are Pat Cummins (Australia, base price Rs 2 crore), David Warner (Australia, Rs 2 crore), Steve Smith (Australia, Rs 2 crore), Quinton de Kock (South Africa, Rs 2 crore), Faf du Plessis (South Africa, Rs 2 crore) and Mark Wood (England, Rs 2 crore).

Of the 1,214 names on the Auction Register, 896 are Indian players and 318 overseas players. The list incorporates 270 capped, 903 uncapped and 41 players from Associate nations like Nepal, UAE, Oman, Scotland and the Netherlands. There are 14 players from the USA too. If every franchise were to have the maximum of 25 players in their squad, 217 players will be bought in the auction, of which up to 70 may be overseas players.
