In the first innings of the Test match against the West Indies in Perth, the player of the Australian team, Steve Smith, has scored a century. With his 29th century in his 155th Test innings, Smith became the third batsman after Bradman to score 29 centuries in the shortest innings. Steve Smith also holds the record of completing 4000 runs by scoring a century against the West Indies in a Test match at home.

Smith’s average of over 4000 runs in domestic Tests is better than Sachin Tendulkar’s average of 52.67. Sachin scored 7216 runs in domestic Tests. Apart from Sachin, the record of 7578 runs in domestic Tests is held by Ricky Ponting. Among batsmen who have scored 4000 runs in domestic Tests, only Don Bradman (98.22) and Gary Sobers (66.80) have a better batting average than Smith.

Former captain and batting mainstay Steve Smith started the Australian summer with a bang hitting a record-equaling hundred on the second day of the first Test against West Indies at Perth. Smith equaled the record of Sir Don Bradman’s 29 Test hundreds to add another feather to his glittering cap.

Smith reached the landmark playing his 88th Test match, while the great Don scored his 29th Test century in his 51st Test against England at Leeds in July 1948. That was the penultimate Test of Bradman’s career.
