In response to this, the West Indies team chasing the target was bowled out for just 214 runs in their first innings. Nathan Lyon took maximum 3 wickets in the first innings for Australia. Australia bowled out West Indies for short runs and took a lead of 297 runs in the first innings.

Windies all out for 77 runs

Despite having a huge lead, Australia, who played the second innings instead of following on, scored 199 runs for the loss of 6 wickets and declared the innings. This gave West Indies a target of 497 runs by adding 199 runs in the second innings with the first innings lead. Chasing this, West Indies lost 4 wickets on the third day and scored only 38 runs. After starting the 4th day’s play, the West Indies lost the remaining 6 wickets in the first session of the day’s play and suffered a huge defeat. Mitchell Starc, Michael Nasser and Scott Boland took 3 wickets each for Australia in the second innings.
