Asia Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma finally breaks silence on Chahal not selection

Asia biggest cricket tournament will be played between 30 August 2023 and 17th September 2023. Asia Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma finally breaks silence on Yuzvendra chahal not selection.

17-member Team India has been selected for the 2023 ODI Asia Cup. Surprisingly, some players managed to get selected in the team, while others failed to get a place in the team. Key players not selected in the squad include Sanju Samson (back-up), Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra chahal.

In particular, the omission of googly master Yuzvendra chahal from the team, who appeared in the list of players who will definitely get a place in Team India for the Asia Cup and the World Cup, has surprised everyone. In fact, Yuzvendra Chahal has played only two ODIs this year. One was against Sri Lanka in January 2023, while the other was against New Zealand in January 2023.

Chahal was also part of the recently concluded West Indies tour. But he did not get continuous opportunities like Kuldeep Yadav. Team captain Rohit Sharma finally breaks silence on why Chahal was dropped from the Asia Cup 2023 team.

Speaking about not selecting Chahal, Rohit said, “We couldn’t pick Chahal as we had only 17 slots. The World Cup door is still open for many players including Ravi Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar,” Sharma told a press conference.

National selector Ajit Agarkar also spoke about Chahal’s exclusion, saying that we were only allowed to pick one wrist spinner. So we chose Kuldeep. There is no doubt that Chahal is a brilliant player. But we had to look at the balance of the team. Also it was difficult to pick two wrist spinners in the team. Ajit Agarkar has said that it is unfortunate that Chahal was not selected in the team.
