RSS Event at Congress MLA’s School Sparks Row Amid Priyank Kharge’s Ban Proposal

Kalaburagi: A fresh controversy has erupted in Karnataka after an RSS event was held at a school owned by Congress MLA M.Y. Patil in Kalaburagi, even as IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to ban RSS activities in government spaces across the state.

On Sunday evening, an RSS baithak and pathasanchalan (march) took place within the premises of Mahanteshwar Vidyavardhak Educational Institution, a government-aided school owned by Afzalpur MLA M.Y. Patil. The event included intellectual sessions and drew attention due to its timing and location.

Responding to media queries, Patil defended the use of the school premises, stating, “Our school is public property. We have allowed programs for all parties. Our ideology is rooted in Dravidian and tribal values. RSS follows Arya Samaj principles, and their intent is different. Their conduct is also different.”

On Priyank Kharge’s letter seeking a ban on RSS activities, Patil said he had no objection. “RSS’s objectives are not aligned with national unity. They may have one or two freedom fighters, but if they truly respect the nation, they should carry the Tricolor instead of lathis. We welcome them if they hold the national flag, but we oppose their marches with sticks,” he added.

Patil further questioned why RSS does not hoist the national flag at its headquarters, alleging, “It is not a nation-building organization, but one that divides the country.”

The incident has sparked debate, especially since the RSS is celebrating its centenary with marches across Karnataka. The fact that an RSS event was held at a Congress MLA’s institution while a Congress minister is advocating for a ban has led to political embarrassment and intensified scrutiny within the party.
