OBC Council meeting in Bengaluru starts today
OBC Council meeting: The Congress party’s All India Congress Committee (AICC) Other Backward Classes (OBC) Advisory Council is holding its first meeting in Bengaluru today and tomorrow, July 15-16, 2025.
The two-day meeting will focus on strategies to strengthen OBC leadership within the party and formulate a dedicated outreach strategy to woo back OBC voters across the country, especially with crucial elections like those in Bihar in mind. Discussions will likely include the caste census and provisions for the welfare of backward classes.

The 24-member OBC Advisory Council includes prominent leaders such as Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, former Chief Ministers Ashok Gehlot (Rajasthan), Bhupesh Baghel (Chhattisgarh), V. Narayanasamy (Puducherry), and M. Veerappa Moily.
A total of around 42 prominent OBC leaders from across India, including council members, PCC chiefs, CLP leaders, and about 90 Congress leaders overall, are expected to attend.
While earlier reports suggested Siddaramaiah would head the council, his office has clarified that he is a member and the meeting will be held under the AICC OBC wing president, Dr. Anil Jaihind.

Siddaramaiah is hosting the meeting in Karnataka. This meeting is seen as a significant move by the Congress to address concerns and consolidate support among the OBC communities, a crucial vote bank across the country.
